Who am I?

My name is George Herwill. I am a father, husband and friend – I am a personal trainer and online coach.

I am a qualified Sport Scientist, specialising in data analysis and performance capturing, as well as a nutrition, specialising in bespoke meal design and customised supplement protocols.

I am blessed to be able to do what I love and what I am passionate about for a living, and I love bringing that passion to everyone I work with. I am proud of the many accomplishments that I have achieved throughout my career and work hard to keep pushing the limits of what I can achieve. Some of the highlights of my career thus far include:

  • Winning the overall Nabba WFF World Championship in Greece in 2013 – Extreme Body Building and Overall Champion.
  • Winning the Overall IFBB Gauteng Provincials and 1st in the Men’s 85kg Category

My dream is to help others achieve their goals and make their dreams a reality. As a coach, I have founded a team of over 50 competitive athletes, helped transform countless lives and built a reputation as the transformation go-to trainer. Striving for excellence and success in all aspects of our lives, my motto of “Believe in yourself and nothing will be impossible” stays at the forefront of my life.

Being a family man, I understand the importance of being healthy and present for our children. This is why I have started focussing more attention on creating a sustainable health plan for everyone to follow. From fathers to sons, mothers and daughters – family is the foundation of building a healthy lifestyle and I am thankful to be part of creating longevity in the lives of so many.

It is incredibly important for me to lead by example for my clients, which is a driving point for my dedication to fitness and wellbeing. I believe that you need to dedicate 100% to your passion if you want your clients and yourself to succeed. People look to those who have been there before for motivation and inspiration, I want my experience as a transformation coach to inspire others.

What role does nutrition play in weight loss?

Nutrition is vital to fueling your transformation journey. There is an old saying; Nutrition is 80% of the journey and I feel that it is true. We need to fuel our bodies with the right foods to allow us to push our bodies to the limit.

Do you think weight training helps other aspects of life?

Definitely. Weight training encourages feel good endorphins that help you de-stress. When you are relaxed and happy, you don’t let the weight of worrying get you down.

It is also a powerful way to encourage dedication, discipline and hard work in an individual, which makes for strong people in the long run.

What is the best eating plan for weight loss?

People are different and so is the way they respond to different eating plans. I work closely with each client to calculate how to create the perfect meal plan for the goals they want to achieve.

Do I need to be a gym expert to transform my body?

Not at all. Everyone starts as a beginner and my plan is designed to work with everyone – no matter their fitness lever – to achieve their goals.

Should you count calories or fat to lose weight?

Much debate surrounds whether it is better to cut calories or fat when losing weight, and although neither is healthy in excess amounts, it would be reasonable to assume that to lose fat you have to stop consuming fat. This however is wrong, fat, especially good fats, are a necessary part of a balanced diet and when consumed through healthier foods such as avocados, nuts, and eggs and so on, fats can improve your diet for a healthy lifestyle.

How can you avoid splurging and control your appetite?

There is no easy way to resist the fatty foods our bodies are programmed to crave. Only willpower and developing techniques can help you curb your appetite and resist binging on tasty treats.

We are all programmed to crave unhealthy or fatty foods because sugars and fat are broken down quickly into an immediate source of energy, more so than healthier foods like vegetables and so on. This is accompanied by the fact that usually high sugar or fat foods taste significantly better than a plate of broccoli.

When is it best to eat?

When you eat can be a contributing factor to how effectively you’re losing weight. It is generally considered that eating breakfast and avoiding large amounts of food before bed will benefit your diet most effectively. Eating first thing in the morning is the best way to kick start your metabolism and encourage the burning of calories and fat.
